Pressing Instructions
If you're using Iris DTF transfers, it's important to follow the correct application method for best results. The steps below outline how to apply your transfer like a pro, whether you're using a commercial heat press or a home setup.
To achieve flawless results with Iris DTF transfers, follow these four essential steps.
1. Place the Transfer
Lay your design onto the garment exactly where you want it. Avoid pressing over folds or seams, as this can affect adhesion. When working with curved surfaces like hats or using a household iron, use heat-resistant tape to hold the transfer in place. As you gain experience, you’ll know when tape is helpful and when it’s not necessary.
2. Apply Heat
Set your press to 310°F / 155°C with medium to firm pressure. Press the transfer for 13 seconds. We recommend testing on a single piece first, especially with delicate fabrics. To protect the garment, use a Silicone Upper Platen Cover or a protective pressing cloth. While pressing longer or hotter won’t damage the transfer itself, it can overheat certain garments—so always monitor your results.
If you notice scorching, first try reducing pressure. If that doesn’t help, keep the lower pressure and drop the temperature by 10-15°F. Each fabric behaves differently, so a bit of testing will help you dial in the right settings.
3. Peel Smoothly After a Short Wait
Thanks to our Easy Peel technology, you can peel hot or cool—whichever suits your workflow. After a few seconds, peel the film. If parts of the design stay stuck, lay the film back down and press again, this time with added pressure or about 15°F more heat. Still not sticking? Repeat with slightly higher heat until fully applied. Don’t worry—multiple presses won’t harm the design.
4. Final Press and Care
For optimal durability, always perform a second press after removing the film. Place parchment paper or a clean cotton cloth over the design and press for around 15 seconds. This extra step improves adhesion, softens the feel, and minimizes shine. For a glossy finish, use a guard sheet during the final press.
To extend the life of the print, wash the garment inside out using cold water and tumble dry on low, or hang to dry. While standard wash settings work, gentler cycles will help preserve the quality even longer.
